A MESSAGE FROM THE AUTHOR

Welcome to the website of The Winged Darkness Trilogy, an adventurous and offbeat fantasy book trilogy about chaos, fire and a bunch of idiots. The website is currently only available in Dutch, but on this page you can find out more about the first book, called Winged Darkness. This book has been published in Dutch, but I’m hoping that an English translation will follow eventually. The other books from the trilogy are currently being written.

SYNOPSIS WINGED DARKNESS

In a post-apocalyptic world that has been burned to the ground, waking up fire-breathing dragons seems like a bad idea to say the least.

Yet that is exactly what Yorick Novak, a mysterious young man, wants to do. With the help of some eccentric companions, Yorick is on his way to the sleeping place of the Winged Darkness, a group of huge dragons that has destroyed the world a long time ago. These creatures are now the only chance to save the world from the clutches of the Adalgars, a notorious family that rules over everything and everyone.

A dangerous and strange journey follows, with a small chance of success. However, Yorick and his companions have a dubious advantage: they are just as dangerous and insane as their mission.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Jan van Gorkum is a filmmaker and writer from the Netherlands. In 2010 Jan graduated as a filmmaker from the Utrecht School of the Arts (HKU), where he studied Audiovisual Media. Winged Darkness is his debut novel.

Jan has written and directed several award winning short films that have been shown at a large number of film festivals around the world. He has also worked as an editor and assistant editor on several short and full length films. Jan loves to combine different genres in his films, but has a soft spot for the genres dark comedy, thriller, fantasy and horror. Examples of his work are the dark comedies Spelletjesavond (Game Night) and De Kleinzoon (The Grandson). Currently, he’s working on his first feature film.
